Thom Tillis in an interview with CNN

RINO Thom Tillis has threatened to torpedo the nomination of Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General unless he explicitly condemns the January 6 protesters.

During an interview on CNN on Thursday, Tillis, as head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, pledged to use his power to block Blanche.

Here is a transcript of the exchange:

HOST: So why is it so important to get this, to target the weaponization fund here, is it’s because the president has kept this option open?”

TILLIS: Well, even the AG has said that it’s done. So I don’t know why we just don’t codify it.

I actually believe that getting this issue off the table improves Todd’s chances of getting through Judiciary and getting through the floor. If this is still out there can you imagine what the Democrats are going to do to that man during a confirmation hearing? Can you imagine how that could potentially influence a couple of our members? We take this off the table, Todd’s chances of becoming confirmed as the AG go up.”

HOST: But if it’s not off the table, could you support — if the weaponization fund is not completely off the table, if you don’t codify it into law, could you support Todd Blanche as attorney general?

TILLIS: We’re looking at it. I haven’t made a decision yet. The key for Todd or anybody going through Judiciary Committee is being pretty tight on, January 6.

They better not have said for one minute that the people that beat up police officers like these right down here were righteous people. You come even close to saying that you don’t have a prayer of getting my vote in Judiciary.

In an interview with Washington Examiner, Tillis said that Blanche was in “dangerous waters” because of his past statements about January 6th.

“Outside of that, I mean, he’s got good credentials — people are going to hammer him because he was the president’s personal attorney, but I’m just more about getting through the J6 stuff,” Tillis said.

“It’s not a gray area for me. Either he equivocated and said harming these Capitol police officers was an OK thing, or he didn’t, and we’ll find that in the due diligence.”

Tillis told me today he has a lot of “respect” for Blanche and credits him with de-escalating the impasse over Jerome Powell

“Todd was instrumental in kind of de-escalating the whole Powell matter.”

But Tillis reiterated his red line on Jan. 6, calling it a “circuit breaker”… https://t.co/RcOQ1kyRZZ

Tillis previously derailed Ed Martin’s nomination for D.C. US Attorney over his statements about January 6th.

A senior advisor for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticized a massive concert by rapper Kanye West in Istanbul, complaining that the performance offended the country’s “spiritual and cultural sensitivities.”

West performed in front of 118,000 fans in Istanbul on Saturday night, despite mounting controversy across Europe over his past antisemitic remarks and praise for Adolf Hitler.

While several European countries have attempted to block or cancel his performances over those comments, Turkish officials were  more concerned by the crowd enthusiastically singing along to his 2013 track “I Am a God.”

In a post on X, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s chief adviser Oktay Saral said the concert featured “rhetoric and symbols that run counter to our faith and civilizational values.”

“The fact that tens of thousands of people enthusiastically chanted ‘I am a God’ is a serious matter that demands close examination,” Saral wrote.

Saral also suggested the event represented more than “a mere music event,” pointing to the appearance of 82-year-old French designer Michele Lamy, whom he described as being “associated with occultism and dark symbols.”

İstanbul’da sahnelenen Kanye West konseri, sıradan bir müzik organizasyonu olarak kabul edilemez.

He further warned about the involvement of a “conservative segment of society… in this cultural siege.”

He also urged Turkey’s tourism ministry “to exercise far greater caution regarding such events that concern the spiritual and cultural sensitivities of our nation.”

The criticism comes despite Turkey allowing the event to proceed without interruption in front of one of the largest crowds of West’s recent European appearances.

West has faced mounting backlash in recent years over repeated antisemitic comments and statements praising Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The rapper has previously attributed some of his behaviour to bipolar disorder.

Earlier this year, Britain barred West from entering the country to headline a music festival, forcing organisers to cancel the event.

France also moved to block a planned concert in Marseille, while Poland canceled a scheduled stadium performance over what officials described as his “promotion of Nazism.”

Italy later scrapped a proposed July concert on public safety grounds.

In January, West defended himself in a Wall Street Journal advertisement, blaming his outbursts on a severe case of bipolar disorder.

West is still scheduled to perform in the Netherlands later this week, before additional concerts in Albania and the Czech Republic later this summer.

Protesters clashed with polcie in Southampton on Tuesday evening to demand justice for Henry Nowak.

Huge numbers of protesters gathered outside a Southampton police station on Tuesday night led by Tommy Robinson in order to demand justice for Henry Nowak.

Nowak, an 18-year-old white British teenager, was killed last December by Vickrum Digwa, a Sikh man who falsely claimed he had been racially abused before the attack.

He may have survived had officers not handcuffed him while he lay bleeding from stab wounds inflicted with by Digwa’s Sikh ceremonial sword.

Police bodycam footage showed that when Nowak told an officer he had been stabbed, the officer replied: “Don’t think you have mate.”

Digwa, 23, was jailed for life on Monday after being convicted of murdering Nowak as the teenager walked back to his student accommodation in the city of Southampton.

Crowds waved Union flags and held signs reading “Henry’s blood is on your hands,” “Save our kids,” and “Prison 4 police on scene.”

Chants of “Shame on you” and “Racist police, off our streets” rang out as speakers addressed the crowd, including the popular street activist Tommy Robinson.

“If Henry wasn’t white, he wouldn’t have been handcuffed,” Robinson told demonstrators, adding that he wanted to see the officer responsible in prison.

“A white boy who done nothing was handcuffed, a murderer in possession of a knife who stabbed someone five times isn’t.”

Hundreds gathered outside Southampton Central Police Station following the guilty verdict in the murder of Henry Nowak.

Nick Tenconi, leader of the UK Independence Party, led a prayer for Nowak and denounced two-tier policing.

“The arresting officers believed persecuting him was more important than saving him because he was white,” Tenconi said.

As the evening progressed, several hundred protesters marched toward the area where the killing took place.

Riot police blocked access to the street where Digwa’s family reportedly lives, leading to confrontations between demonstrators and officers.

The scenes this evening in Portswood are completely unacceptable.

The explosion took place in Indonesia’s Papua Province

At least five people have been killed, and three others remain missing after a suspected World War II-era bomb exploded beneath a home in Indonesia’s Papua Province.

CBS reports that the blast occurred on Sunday in Biak Numfor Regency, with local authorities saying the device is believed to have been left behind during the Second World War.

Five additional people were injured in the explosion and taken to the hospital.

According to Indonesian media reports, the bomb detonated beneath a stilt house near the shoreline on Walter Mongonsidi Street in Biak town, triggering a massive fireball that was captured on CCTV footage.

“The explosion is suspected to have originated from a World War II-era bomb,” Papua Police Chief Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito told local outlet The Jakarta Globe.

Footage from the scene showed flames and thick smoke erupting into the sky before debris scattered across the surrounding area.

Several homes were heavily damaged, with reports indicating at least six houses were destroyed by the blast.

Authorities evacuated nearby residents and sealed off the area amid fears of further unexploded ordnance.

“Currently, officers are still on guard around the crime scene,” Biak Numfor Police Chief Ari Trestiawan said.

The search for the three missing people is expected to resume on Monday as emergency crews continue clearing debris from the site.

Police said casualty figures could still rise as investigators work through the destruction.

“There are casualties, but we are still gathering data,” Trestiawan told Indonesian outlet Kompas.

“We are currently on the ground collecting data on casualties and damage from the explosion. We will report this when we have more data.”

Indonesia was one of the most fiercely contested battlegrounds in the Pacific during World War II after Imperial Japan invaded the Dutch East Indies in 1942 to seize its valuable oil and natural resources.

The region later became a major target for Allied bombing campaigns, naval battles, and military operations as U.S. and Allied forces fought to retake territory from Japanese occupation.

As a result, thousands of unexploded bombs, artillery shells, and naval munitions were left scattered across parts of Indonesia after the war ended in 1945.

Colombia is heading to a presidential runoff after conservative outsider Abelardo de la Espriella finished first in Sunday’s election, setting up a high-stakes June 21 showdown with leftist candidate Iván Cepeda.

With more than 99 per cent of votes counted, De la Espriella secured roughly 43.7 per cent of the vote, ahead of Cepeda on 40.9 per cent, placing both candidates far beyond the reach of the remaining field.

According to betting markets, his victory now gives him an 82 percent chance of becoming the country’s next president.

More than 23 million Colombians cast ballots in an election dominated by concerns over rising violence, economic instability, and dissatisfaction with the government of left-wing President Gustavo Petro.

The result marked a humiliating collapse for Colombia’s traditional conservative establishment led by former President Alvaro Uribe.

The candidate for the Democratic Center, Paloma Valencia, secured less than seven per cent of the vote before quickly endorsing De la Espriella ahead of the runoff.

A respected lawyer, De la Espriella, campaigned on a hardline law-and-order platform while promising sweeping economic reforms and a crackdown on Marxist terror groups that have expanded their influence under Petro’s presidency.

He has frequently expressed admiration for President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei.

Following the result, Milei congratulated De la Espriella on X, declaring that the outcome reflected “the desire for liberty and progress of the Colombian people.”

Speaking to supporters in Barranquilla after his first-round victory, De la Espriella vowed to “defend democracy with reason or with force” and warned that Colombia could not continue down its current path under leftist leadership.

Meanwhile, far-left President Gustavo Petro refused to accept the preliminary vote count, alleging irregularities in the electoral process without providing evidence.

Cepeda also declined to formally recognise the result, telling supporters in Bogotá that “we will not hand Colombia over to fascism.”

A De la Espriella victory would likely lead to improved relations with the United States, after multiple clashes between Petro and Trump since he returned to office last January.
