Authorities overseeing some of Britain’s most famous countryside landscapes are launching targeted outreach programs aimed at ethnic minority communities, after a government-commissioned review warned rural areas are widely perceived as a "white" and unwelcoming space.
"The countryside is seen by both black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and white people as very much a ‘white’ environment," the report stated, "We are all paying for national landscapes through our taxes, and yet sometimes on our visits it has felt as if National Parks are an exclusive, mainly white, mainly middle‑class club, with rules only members understand and much too little done to encourage first time visitors."
Critics say the initiative reflects misplaced government priorities. Michael McManus, director of research at the Henry Jackson Society, told Fox News Digital: "At a time of low growth, high taxes and stretched public services, it’s astonishing that ministers are spending time and money worrying about the ‘whiteness’ of the countryside. Government exists to grow the economy and fix real problems, not to indulge in culture war distractions that deliver nothing for working people."
The initiatives stem from the 2019 Landscapes Review, commissioned by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and led by author Julian Glover. The review concluded that England’s protected landscapes often feel disconnected from large parts of the population.

The review also criticized the leadership of protected landscapes, arguing that governance bodies do not reflect the country they serve. "Of the almost 1,000 people on National Park and AONB boards today, the great majority are male… and a tiny fraction are of black, Asian or minority ethnicities," the report said, calling that imbalance "wrong for organizations which are funded by the nation to serve everyone."
Following the review, organizations representing National Landscapes, formerly known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, have published updated management plans outlining steps to attract more diverse visitors. According to individual plans published between 2024 and 2025, and as reported by U.K. outlets including LBC and GB News, the measures apply to landscapes including the Cotswolds, the Chilterns, the Malvern Hills and others.

Under those plans, the Chilterns National Landscape will launch targeted outreach programs in Luton and High Wycombe, areas with large Muslim populations. One barrier cited in follow-up research was concern among some visitors about unleashed dogs in rural areas.
The Cotswolds National Landscape referenced the DEFRA findings directly, saying it is seeking to broaden its appeal to reach "the widest demographic."
In its own management strategy, the Malvern Hills National Landscape said many minority communities lack a generational connection to the countryside because parents and grandparents "did not always feel welcome in it." The plan added that while many white English visitors value solitude, ethnic minority visitors may be more inclined toward group or family-based activities.
Other landscapes raised similar concerns. Nidderdale National Landscape in North Yorkshire warned that ethnic minority visitors may worry about how they will be received in unfamiliar rural settings. Dedham Vale, Surrey Hills, and Suffolk and Essex Coast Heaths said they aim to identify and address barriers limiting access for under-represented groups, including people without English as a first language.
Together, the plans signal a broader shift in how Britain’s publicly funded countryside is managed, as landscape authorities face growing pressure to demonstrate cultural relevance to a changing society, even as critics warn the focus risks sidelining economic priorities and traditional conservation goals.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs in England for comment but did not receive a response before publication.

A harrowing discovery has been made inside the home of Nancy Guthrie, the mom of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, as the famed anchor has broken her silence.
Law enforcement sources informed the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday morning that blood was discovered along with signs of forced entry in Nancy’s house, which is in Catalina Hills, Arizona.
Police have not confirmed at this point whose blood it was.
“At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly [in the] middle of the night,” Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Kevin Adger to the LA Times.
“Detectives are looking into a possible kidnapping or abduction,” he added.
As The Daily Mail reported, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos choked up and almost burst into tears Monday night when asked if he thought Nancy was still alive.
“Do you believe you are still looking for Nancy Guthrie alive at this point? That she could be held somewhere? And if so, do you believe that is local in the Tucson area, or that she’s been taken somewhere?” AZFamily host Briana Whitney asked.
An emotional Nanos stumbled on his words as he stated: “You know, we’re just not going to give up hope. We hope she’s out there somewhere.”

As The Gateway Pundit’s Cassandra MacDonald reported, Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing, and law enforcement described the scene they encountered at her Arizona home as “very concerning.”
Homicide detectives were sent in, which is not standard practice in a missing person case, and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that the house is a crime scene.
“She did not leave on her own, we know that,” Nanos said during Sunday’s press conference.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night, at around 9:30 p.m., near where she lives in the Catalina Foothills.
She was reported missing on Sunday, around noon, by a relative.
Savannah Guthrie posted the following message on Instagram, where she asked for people to pray for her mother’s safe return.
“Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant,” she wrote. “Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”

A political taboo long enforced across Europe fractured this week when French far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon openly invoked the term “Great Replacement” during a municipal campaign event—language left-liberals, globalists, and pro-mass migration activists have spent years condemning as dangerous “conspiracy theory.”
Speaking in support of La France Insoumise (LFI) candidate François Piquemal, Mélenchon addressed critics on the conservative-nationalist right by declaring, “Yes, Mr. Zemmour, yes, Mr. Bayrou, there is a ‘Great Replacement.’” The remark stunned observers, given the French left’s long-standing effort to criminalize or censor the term.
Mélenchon, being the clever politician that he is, attempted to soften the impact by redefining the phrase as a matter of generational change rather than immigration. He said the “Great Replacement” simply described “a generation which comes after another,” calling it a natural process that has existed “since the dawn of time.”
Yet Mélenchon went further, explicitly linking the concept to his party’s political ambitions. He said upcoming municipal elections should demonstrate LFI’s ability to “embody the new France, that of the Great Replacement,” framing demographic transformation as an electoral asset rather than a concern.

Conservative figures immediately saw and highlighted the comments as a blatant admission. Reconquête founder Éric Zemmour said Sunday that Mélenchon had confirmed what critics have argued for years.
“He finally admits it,” Zemmour said. “La France Insoumise is the party of the Great Replacement.” Zemmour added that Mélenchon is openly staking his political future on immigrant-heavy urban districts.
National Rally president Jordan Bardella echoed the criticism, accusing Mélenchon of promoting “community fragmentation” and empowering political Islam under the banner of diversity.
Mélenchon, for his part, responded dismissively on social media, comparing demographic change to leadership succession. “Jean-Marie Le Pen was replaced by you,” he told Bardella, calling it “the mechanism of life.”
The controversy is not confined to France. Across Europe, left-wing parties that once denied demographic change are increasingly reframing it as inevitable—and desirable.
In Spain, leading figures from the radical-left Podemos party have made similar remarks. One prominent Podemos figure previously described mass migration as essential to building a “new Spain,” remarks widely interpreted by critics as endorsing population replacement while dismissing native cultural continuity as obsolete.
The video features Irene Montero, a senior figure in Spain’s far-left Podemos, a former equality minister, and a current member of the European Parliament (MEP), speaking at a public event. In her remarks, Montero said she hoped immigration would help “sweep this country of fascists and racists,” language that critics say suggests an intent to reshape the electorate through demographic transformation.
After spreading on X, the footage quickly went viral, amassing more than five million views and becoming a flashpoint in wider European political discussion.
Like Mélenchon, Spain’s radical left has attempted to rebrand these statements as inclusive or progressive, while continuing to label critics as extremists or conspiracists.
The shift reflects a broader European trend: denial has given way to normalization. What was once dismissed outright is now being reinterpreted, repackaged, and integrated into campaign messaging—especially in urban districts transformed by decades of mass immigration.
