Pope Leo XIV starts a four-nation visit to Africa Monday, visiting the fastest-growing continent for the Catholic Church as he embarks on his fourth foreign trip since becoming pontiff in 2025.
While the trip does not include the continent’s most populous nation of Nigeria — where thousands of the faithful have been killed for their religious beliefs — it begins in the Muslim-majority country of Algeria.
The Vatican has called the trip "A pilgrim in Africa." The main themes Leo is expected to address include peace, migration, the environment, young people and the family, according to the Holy See. He will make 25 speeches in four of Africa’s main languages — French, English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Analysts and clerics are keen to stress the overall importance of this visit to the continent. "I believe the Holy Father is walking with the African church in the context of the global church," Rev. Daniel Male, secretary of the Union of Augustinian Friars of Africa, told the Religion News Service. He added, "He is affirming the African churches’ growth and vibrancy and is also making a statement that the church has a preferential option for the poor and those at the margins."
The Catholic OSV News added the visit "highlights peace efforts, the works of mercy, and the Catholic Church’s vibrant presence on the continent."
The National Catholic Register stated that in 1910 Africa was home to less than 1 million Catholics. The latest figures available for 2024 estimate there are now 288 million.
Commenting on his absence from Nigeria, Frans Cronje, African-based analyst at the Yorktown Foundation for Freedom, told Fox News Digital, "Given Nigeria's role as the epicenter of the terror threat faced by Africa's Christians, it will be disappointing to many of them to learn that the pope has left that country off his Africa agenda. The country has become ground zero for the global Islamist terror threat."

The Vatican’s yearbook for 2025, the Annuario Pontificio, states Catholics number 8,740 out of a population of 46–48 million. The pope is believed to be coming to Algeria to visit the ancient city of Hippo, now called Annaba. The city was home to St. Augustine, the "doctor of the church." Pope Leo is the first pontiff to belong to the Augustinian Order.
He is also expected to emphasize interfaith dialogue with Islam when he visits the Great Mosque of Algiers. This is one of the biggest in the world, capable of accommodating up to 120,000 people.
The 2026 Open Doors World Watch List placed Algeria in the 20th position for Christian persecution. It said 47 churches of the Protestant Church of Algeria (EPA) have been closed by the authorities.
The Associated Press reported that Algerian authorities rejected a Vatican request for Leo to visit Médéa to pray at the Tibhirine monastery, the place where seven French Trappist monks were kidnapped and killed May 21, 1996, by Islamic extremists during the country’s civil war.
The Catholic EWTN organization reports that Catholics make up between 30% and 35% of the population of some 30 million.
The pope will preside over five public Masses and addresses in three cities. He will also meet with vulnerable children at the Ngul Zamba Orphanage in the capital city of Yaoundé.
In the latest government census, some 56% of Angola’s population identified as being Catholic.
The most significant part of the pope’s visit to Angola is expected to be when he goes to the town of Muxima, where he will pray at a shrine to the Virgin Mary, known locally as "Mama Muxima," or "mother of the heart." This is said to be the spiritual home for many Angolans, drawing over 2 million pilgrims every year.
The Vatican has stated that approximately 80% of the population of Equatorial Guinea are Catholic. Leo will hold several Masses and addresses, and will visit a new psychiatric hospital and a prison. The Jean Pierre Olie Psychiatric Hospital in Sampaka, Malabo, was only inaugurated in December and is the country’s first modern specialized mental health facility. It collaborates with France’s Hospital Saint-Anne in Paris.
In a potentially controversial move, the pope will also visit a prison in Bata notorious for reports of inmate torture and abuse.
The Vatican did not respond to Fox News Digital questions by press time.

Russia and Ukraine traded accusations of hundreds of attacks Sunday, casting doubt on a Kremlin-declared Easter ceasefire that appeared to be unraveling less than a day after it began.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a 32-hour ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter holiday, ordering forces to halt fighting from Saturday afternoon through the end of Sunday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to honor the pause but warned Kyiv would respond quickly to any violations.
The holiday ceasefire, however, appeared to be short-lived.
Ukraine’s military said it had logged 2,299 ceasefire violations by early Sunday morning, including assaults, shelling and small drone activity, though it noted no use of long-range drones, missiles or guided bombs.
A Ukrainian officer told The Associated Press that Russian troops continued attacking positions despite the declared truce.
Russia’s Defense Ministry fired back, accusing Ukrainian forces of 1,971 violations, including drone strikes in the border regions of Kursk and Belgorod that allegedly injured civilians.
The head of Russia's Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said Sunday that the bodies of two civilians have been recovered following an alleged Ukrainian attack on Saturday.

Irena Bulhakova told The Associated Press at a holiday gathering outside Kyiv that she had her doubts about any ceasefires as Russia’s four-year war on Ukraine drags on.
"Every time a ceasefire is announced for a holiday, the shelling continues regardless," she said.
Reflecting on the meaning of the Orthodox Easter holiday, she added: "Good triumphs over darkness, and we hope for that very much."

"In prayer, our limited human possibilities are joined to the infinite possibilities of God. Thoughts, words and deeds then break the demonic cycle of evil and are placed at the service of the Kingdom of God," he said in a prayer service at St. Peter’s Basilica.
He continued, "A Kingdom in which there is no sword, no drone, no vengeance, no trivialization of evil, no unjust profit, but only dignity, understanding and forgiveness. It is here that we find a bulwark against that delusion of omnipotence that surrounds us and is becoming increasingly unpredictable and aggressive."
In posts on X and during the prayer vigil, the pontiff also warned that war "divides" while hope and faith unite humanity.

They were some of the first American pontiff’s strongest words yet after he called President Donald Trump’s threat against Iran on Tuesday "truly unacceptable."
"Today, as we all know, there has also been this threat against the entire people of Iran, and this is truly unacceptable," the pope said earlier this week. "There are certainly issues of international law here, but even more so a moral issue for the good of the whole entire population."
Trump had written on Truth Social "A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will... God Bless the Great People of Iran!"
Hours later, the president announced a two-week ceasefire subject to Iran agreeing to "the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz," the president wrote in another post.
As the high-stakes talks began on Saturday in Islamabad, Trump told reporters outside the White House: "We win regardless of what happens. Maybe they make a deal, maybe they don’t."
For more than a month, the pope limited his remarks to muted appeals for peace, but in his Easter blessing last Sunday, he urged "those with weapons lay them down. Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace."
Leo also invoked what he said were the final words that Pope Francis issued to the world from the same balcony one year ago, during which the late pontiff warned of a "globalization of indifference."

Despite efforts to shift evangelical Christian support away from Israel, some of the most influential leaders say the community has stood firmly by the Jewish state since the start of the joint U.S.-Israel operation against Iran.
As Wednesday's ceasefire took effect, Dr. Mike Evans, founder of the Friends of Zion Heritage Center in Jerusalem and a close evangelical ally of President Donald Trump, reflected on the war. Evans flew to Israel on Feb. 26 as tensions escalated ahead of the operation.
During his visit, Evans toured impact sites caused by enemy missiles, met wounded civilians and Holocaust survivors, and provided $50,000 in financial assistance to a bereaved family.
"I knew the war would start, so I flew to the area. I have been in 41 wars. I go there intentionally when people are hurting to help them," Evans told Fox News Digital.

"I have been doing this for half a century. This is my life—combating antisemitism and helping the Jewish people," Evans said.
Operation Epic Fury, the joint U.S.-Israeli military campaign [named Roaring Lion in Israel], began on Feb. 28, with the stated goal of "obliterating Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal and production capacity," weakening its military infrastructure and preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons, according to a White House briefing. The first day of the operation was marked by the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to Israel's Ministry of Health on Tuesday, since the beginning of the war, 7,183 people have been evacuated to hospitals, of whom 118 are currently hospitalized.
Evans described the U.S.-Israel partnership as unprecedented. "No one could have imagined an American president partnering so closely with Israel against radical Islam," he said, calling the campaign "historic."
He said evangelical support for Israel is rooted in religious belief. "The Bible is a Jewish book, and evangelicals believe in a Jewish person, Jesus," he said. "They see Israel as the biblical land and believe God keeps his promises."
The Evangelical Christian community, which numbers about 52 million people in the United States, supported Trump’s presidency on the condition that he would back Israel, Evans said.
Beyond political backing, Evans said evangelicals are active online. "We’ve had 127 million views on social media in the last eight weeks," he said. "We are fighting misinformation and antisemitism because lies can cost lives."
He emphasized that support is also practical. "We don’t just offer prayers — we provide financial help to those who lost homes and possessions."
Evans acknowledged that a portion of younger evangelicals has shifted away from traditional support for Israel. "A segment has been influenced by universities and online voices," he said, estimating that about 22% to 23% have shifted. "We are working to reach them and I believe we can."
American Pastor John Hagee, the founder and chairman of the Christian Zionist organization Christians United for Israel, told Fox News Digital that the evangelical community supports Trump’s decision to seek the end of Iran’s menacing and murderous behavior.
"We will be backing his request to Congress to fund this effort, and we will ensure our elected officials represent the will and morality of the American people by seeing this righteous endeavor to its righteous end," he said.
Hagee said that "as Americans, we have a right to defend ourselves against the Islamic Republic’s half-century of terror. As Christians, we are mandated to defend ourselves against evil, to stand with the oppressed against the same, and to stand with the children of Israel at all times."
"Evangelical Christians who’ve been raised in the church and are biblically literate are Christian Zionists," he said.
"The rise of antisemitism on the 'woke right' is not a product of evangelical churches, but rather a product of the false doctrine of Replacement Theology, repurposed and used as clickbait," he continued.
Any pastor or priest, politician or podcaster, who charges that the modern children of Israel are anything other than the direct descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the beneficiaries of God’s unbreakable covenant with Israel, Hagee said, is not preaching the word of God.
"Operation Epic Fury is making the world a safer and better place for all its inhabitants; stay the course, Mr. President," he said.
Franklin Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan's Purse, an international, evangelical Christian disaster relief organization, said Iran has vowed to wipe the State of Israel off the face of the earth, and with nuclear weapons, they could.
"If President Trump had not stopped them, this is something this fanatical Islamic regime might have done within the next few months," he said.
"My message to the American people would be to remember Israel is the only truly democratic nation in the Middle East — the only one. And they have been our nation’s closest ally in the region. I urge Americans to 'pray for the peace of Jerusalem' as the Bible instructs us," he continued.
Graham said Trump stood with Israel in a way no other American president did in the past.
"We’ve never had a president like President Trump in my lifetime. If he says he’s going to do something, he’ll do it. He warned Iran that if it continued to develop nuclear weapons, the U.S. would intervene, and that’s exactly what he did."

Er war Initiator der Kritischen Islamkonferenz, ist Herausgeber der HINTERGRUND-Zeitschrift, Vorsitzender der „Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Aufklärung und Menschenrechte“ (GAM) und Autor des Blogs diefreiheit.info.
Eric Angerer stellte ihm einige Fragen.
1) Du betrachtest den Islam nicht als Religion im engeren Sinne, sondern als Herrschaftsideologie. Woran machst Du fest, dass diese Ideologie “grund- und menschenrechtswidrig” ist, wie es im Titel eines Deiner Bücher heißt?
Der Islam ist nicht einfach eine „Religion“, sondern, genauer betrachtet, eine Weltanschauung, die den dogmatisch festgelegten Glauben an die Existenz eines Schöpfergottes namens Allah mit einem absoluten Herrschaftsanspruch verbindet. Im Einzelnen weist diese islamische Weltanschauungsform drei Grundkomponenten auf:
(a) die unbewiesene/unbeweisbare Behauptung der Existenz eines Schöpfergottes;
(b) die Behauptung einer Offenbarung des Willens dieser angeblich existierenden Gottheit sowie
(c) den Drang nach weltlicher (diesseitiger) Normierung der Gesellschaft und der Individuen gemäß dieser unbewiesenen/unbeweisbaren Willensoffenbarung.
Damit tritt der Islam definitiv als eine religiös bzw. monotheistisch überhöhte Herrschaftsideologie in Erscheinung, die eine absolute Geltung beansprucht und einen ebenso umfassenden wie autoritären Regelkanon enthält, der eine vormodern-autoritäre Sozialordnung festlegt.
Betrachtet man nun die Inhalte dieser islamischen Herrschaftsideologie genauer, so zeigt sich sehr klar deren grund- und menschenrechtswidrige Substanz:
So schließt der Islam eine Gleichberechtigung zwischen Muslimen und Nichtmuslimen grundsätzlich aus und legt stattdessen eine hierarchische Rangabstufung zwischen ihnen fest. „Ungläubige“ werden als „minderwertig“ und „unrein“ definiert und unter islamischen Vorherrschaftsverhältnissen dementsprechend behandelt. D. h.: Der Islam ist im Grunde eine Herrenmenschenideologie gegenüber allen Nichtmuslimen.
Gemäß seinem absoluten Geltungsanspruch gewährt der Islam kein Recht auf die freie individuelle Wahl einer Weltanschauung sowie kein Recht auf freie (auch religionskritische) Meinungsäußerung.
Er legt eine repressiv-patriarchalische Geschlechterbeziehung fest, in der Frauen systematisch entrechtet, unterdrückt und als moralisch defizitäre Wesen angesehen und behandelt werden.
Er negiert nicht nur das Recht auf sanktionslosen Religionswechsel und Religionsaustritt (negative Religionsfreiheit), sondern bedroht Glaubensabtrünnige mit dem Tod bzw. drakonischen Ersatzstrafen.
Er schließt homosexuelle Orientierungen als „krankhaft“ und „gesetzwidrig“ aus und droht auch hier mit massiven Strafen.
Als vormoderne patriarchalische Herrschaftsideologie verletzt der Islam das Recht auf freie Partnerwahl und befestigt normativ das archaische Konzept der „Ehre“ etc.
2) Du lehnst es ab, zwischen Islam einerseits und Islamismus oder politischem Islam andererseits zu unterscheiden. Was ist Deine Begründung?
Wie bereits gesagt, beinhaltet der Islam einen umfassenden Regelkanon mit grundlegenden Prinzipien für weltliche Belange. In seiner beurteilungslogisch ausschlaggebenden orthodoxen Grundgestalt, also jenseits von angeblich möglicher subjektivistischer Auslegungswillkür, gilt für ihn deshalb das Prinzip „al-islam din wa daula“: Der Islam ist Religion und Staat. D. h.: Der Islam mit seinem allumfassenden Vorschriften- und Normenkatalog kennt keine Trennung von „reinem rituellen Gottesdienst“ einerseits und normativer Regelung weltlicher Handlungen und intersubjektiver Beziehungen andererseits; er ist in seiner lehrdogmatischen Gesamtheit (Koran, Sunna, Scharia) per se „politisch“. Es gibt also keinen „unpolitischen Islam“. Politik (weltliche bzw. gesellschaftliche Regelung) und Religion (Glaube an Allah und die von ihm verordnete Daseinsordnung) gehören untrennbar zusammen.
Falsch und irreführend ist zudem die willkürliche Setzung: Guter Islam/böser Islamismus. Denn inhaltlich gibt es keinen wesentlichen Unterschied. Der „Islamismus“ ist schlicht sich selbst bestätigender aktivistischer Islam unter den Bedingungen der Erfahrung und Auseinandersetzung mit der westlichen Moderne. Der überlieferte Islam hat sich gezwungenermaßen operativ modernisiert und radikalisiert, wobei es in diesem Kontext zur Herausbildung entsprechender Vorhutgruppen gekommen ist. Das bedeutet zum Beispiel Propaganda der Muslimbruderschaft via Facebook; dschihadistische Ideologie und Bastelanleitungen für Märtyrer im Internet; Aufbau einer Atomindustrie im iranischen Gottesstaat; IS-Propaganda mit barbarischen Enthauptungsszenen als muslimischer Realhorrorfilm auf Smartphone; islamische Frauenfeindlichkeit in Rapper-Sprache (Pop-Islam) etc.
3) In einem Beitrag argumentierst Du, dass unbeschränkte Religionsfreiheit für den Islam in einer demokratisch-säkularen Gesellschaft unmöglich ist. Was bedeutet das konkret? Wie sollte die Handlungsfreiheit der totalitären Islambefolger beschränkt werden?
Gerade auch religiöse Weltanschauungen können für einen säkular-demokratischen Staat nur insoweit akzeptiert werden, soweit die Grund- und Menschenrechte nicht verletzt werden. Insofern rituelle und normative Inhalte dieser Weltanschauungen mit Grund- und Menschenrechten kollidieren bzw. diese verletzten und negieren, muss das Recht auf positive Religionsfreiheit im Sinne einer konsequenten Prioritätssetzung eingeschränkt werden, d. h. der Grundsatz gelten: ‚Grund- und Menschenrechte vor positiver Religionsfreiheit‘. Genau dieser Sachverhalt gilt für den Islam mit seinen angesprochenen grund- und menschenrechtswidrigen Kerninhalten. Deshalb ist das nicht nur oberflächliche, sondern falsche Dogma „Islam=Religion=Religionsfreiheit“ nicht haltbar und muss überwunden werden.
Erforderlich wäre es demgegenüber, den Islam seitens des Staates und der Zivilgesellschaft als das zu behandeln, was er tatsächlich ist, nämlich eine nicht integrierbare grund- und menschenrechtswidrige Weltanschauung, die in einem unaufhebbaren Gegensatzverhältnis zur freiheitlich-säkularen Gesellschafts- und Lebensordnung steht. Konkrete Maßnahmen zur Revision und Eindämmung der Islamausbreitung in Deutschland hat die GAM e. V. in ihrem Programm „Säkulare Lebensordnung vs. islamisches Gottesrecht“ dargelegt.
Hier nur ein paar Beispiele: Präzisierung von Artikel 4 Grundgesetz: Der Islam ist keine Religion im Sinne des Grundgesetzes. Keinerlei Anerkennung und Anwendung der Scharia in Deutschland. Kein bekenntnisreligiöser Islamunterricht an deutschen Schulen. Die Zentren für islamische Theologie an deutschen Universitäten müssen geschlossen werden. Keine Sonderrechte und Vorzugsbehandlungen für Muslime. Für ein Kopftuch- und Verschleierungsverbot im gesamten öffentlichen Raum; Unterbindung der Finanzierung und ideologischen Steuerung islamischer Organisationen und Moscheen/Moscheevereine aus dem Ausland. Vollständige Unterlassung der diffamierenden Umdeutung von wissenschaftlich-emanzipatorischer Islamkritik in „Fremdenfeindlichkeit“, „Rassismus“ und „Islamophobie“.
4) Wenn der Islam und seine politischen Herrschafts- und Expansionsansprüche nicht zu trennen sind, müsste dann nicht der Koran (ähnlich wie Hitlers “Mein Kampf”) ebenso verboten werden wie sämtliche islamische Vereine? Was bliebe dann über?
Ein Verbot des Korans würde an der Gesinnung der anwesenden Islambefolger nichts ändern und wäre im Unterschied zu den zuvor umrissenen Maßnahmen, die eine berechtigte „Unwillkommenskultur“ gegenüber dem Islam und seinen undistanzierten Befolgern bewirken, reine Symbolpolitik. Wichtig wären hingegen die Auflösung der Deutschen Islamkonferenz sowie die Einstellung der Zusammenarbeit des Staates mit den Islamverbänden.
5) Du hast ausführlich über die islamische Machtstrategie in den europäischen Ländern geschrieben. Da geht es vor allem um die Islamisierungskonzepte der dominanten Netzwerke der Muslimbruderschaft. Was sind die Eckpunkte dieser Strategie?
Der Islam zielt gemäß seiner weltanschaulichen Dogmatik letztendlich auf die Weltherrschaft und Überwindung/Beseitigung der entgegenstehenden Kulturen der Ungläubigen. Zu diesem Zweck werden seitens der diversen Abteilungen der muslimischen Gemeinschaft in arbeitsteiliger Form unterschiedliche strategische Anstrengungen unternommen bzw. islamisch sanktionierte Handlungen ausgeführt: physische Gewaltanwendung, bewaffneter Kampf und „modernisierte“ Terroranschläge (militanter Dschihad); ökonomische Expansion (Kapitalanlagen im Westen); Infiltration und Bestechung der politischen Institutionen (bis ins EU-Parlament) sowie Missionierung und propagandistische Werbung in Verbindung mit gezielter Verleumdung wissenschaftlich-säkularer Islamkritik (politischer und ideologischer Dschihad) etc. Ganz unten an der Basis der „Gemeinschaft der Rechtgläubigen“ und außerhalb der Vorhutgruppen hält der „friedliche“ muslimische Patriarch die Geburtenrate hoch, schützt die Familienehre, verheiratet seine Töchter nach islamischen Regeln und sorgt für die erforderliche islamische Sozialisation.
In diesem Kontext praktizieren dann die islamischen Vorhutkräfte eine offensive Legalitätstaktik ganz im Sinne der Muslimbruderschaft sowie des türkischen Staatsislam: Ideologisch bekämpfen und diffamieren sie die menschenrechtliche Demokratie; gleichzeitig nutzen sie die demokratischen Rechte und Freiheiten der säkularen Gesellschaftsordnung aus und täuschen obendrein die Öffentlichkeit durch Lippenbekenntnisse und leere Behauptungen. Auf einen kurzen Nenner gebracht lautet ihre Forderung: Freiheit für die Feinde der Freiheit. Dabei begünstigen sowohl der Zustand der deutschen Gesetzeslage als auch die oftmals durch Ignoranz gekennzeichnete richterliche Gesinnungshoheit der Rechtsprechungsorgane die Islamisierungsstrategie.
6) Die zunehmende Einflussnahme der Muslimbruderschaft wird in den westeuropäischen Ländern von einem proislamischen politischen Kartell befördert. Wie kann man erklären, dass “unsere” Parteien eine für Europa verheerende Entwicklung unterstützen? Sind diese Politiker dumm oder gekauft oder steckt da mehr dahinter?
Es handelt sich hierbei um ein komplexes Interessengefüge, das zu einem „tiefen“ proislamischen Herrschaftskartell geführt hat. Ich kann hier nur einige Knotenpunkte andeuten:
1) Die ökonomische, politische und militärische Interessenverflechtung mit islamischen Herrschaftsregionen (Türkei, arabische Golfstaaten) seitens der globalkapitalistisch ausgerichteten europäischen Herrschaftsträger;
2) die Umsetzung des UN-Migrationspaktes als ein wesentlicher Motor der Islamisierung;
3) das „Schielen“ der etablierten Parteien auf Wählerstimmen aus den wachsenden islamisch geprägten Sozialmilieus;
4) die christlichen Kirchen als proislamische Kollaborationsakteure;
5) das parteienstaatlich finanzierte Netzwerk islamapologetischer und antiislamkritischer Einrichtungen und
6) das Verflechtungsdickicht zwischen Migrationsindustrie und Nichtregierungsorganisationen (NGOs) als zentrale Importschiene islamischer Herrschaftskultur.
7) Wie kann eine Entislamisierung Westeuropas gelingen? Was sagst Du zur Forderung nach Remigration?
Würden die umrissenen Maßnahmen zur Revision und Eindämmung der Islamausbreitung geradlinig umgesetzt, die islamapologetischen Kräfte nachhaltig zurückgedrängt und eine starke Zivilgesellschaft entstehen, die in allen wesentlichen Bereichen den Islambefolgern unmissverständlich klar macht: „Deutschland, Österreich etc. lehnen die islamische Herrschaftskultur aus guten Gründen ab. Ihr kommt hier mit Euren gegensätzlich-antisäkularen Einstellungen, Haltungen, Ansprüchen und ungläubigenfeindlichen Verleumdungen nicht länger durch“, dann würde in Verbindung mit entsprechenden gesetzlichen Änderungen ein solcher „Gamechanger“ die freiwillige Rückkehrbereitschaft von Muslimen deutlich beflügeln.
Es geht letztendlich um den Umbau Europas zu wehrhaften säkular-demokratischen Gesellschaften, die den Islamisierungsprozess stoppen und die proislamischen Kräfte entmachten.
For Mehdi Ghadimi, the ideology behind Iran’s ruling system is not theoretical. It was something he was taught from childhood.
"You were told you are a part a small group chosen by God… to revive God’s religion and fight to defend it," the Iranian journalist told Fox News Digital, describing the message repeated in schools, mosques and state media.
That early indoctrination, he said, framed the world in stark terms: a divine struggle between good and evil, with Iran’s leadership positioned at the center of a religious mission.
Iran’s ruling system is often described in political terms, but critics and former insiders say its core is far more radical — a belief structure rooted in religious absolutism, messianic expectation and a worldview that leaves little room for compromise.

As a new generation of commanders rises within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps following recent military blows under Operation Epic Fury, analysts warn that this ideology may become even more entrenched.
Figures such as Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Ahmad Vahidi are often cited as part of a cohort shaped by years of conflict in Iraq and across the region — one that sees religion, security and survival as inseparable.
At the center of that worldview is the belief in the Mahdi — a messianic figure in Shiite Islam whose return is expected to usher in a final era of justice after chaos.
Twelver Shiism is the dominant belief for Shias, the Mahdi, identified as the 12th Imam, is alive but hidden and will one day return. Iran’s political system positions the supreme leader as his caretaker.
Critics say that framework gives political authority a religious dimension that can make it difficult to challenge.
"For the mullahs in Iran, the Mahdi idea is less about personal faith and more about power," said Lisa Daftari, foreign policy analyst and editor-in-chief at The Foreign Desk. "They use it to suggest that the supreme leader’s views are not just political opinions, but carry a kind of divine weight."
"The system is set up so that disagreeing with the leader can be portrayed as questioning the Hidden Imam himself," she said.
"That turns ordinary policy debates into something almost untouchable… you’re no longer arguing with a politician, you’re seen as pushing back against a sacred figure."

Ghadimi argues that this structure leaves little room for genuine political diversity.
"Groups labeled as ‘moderate,’ ‘reformist,’ or ‘pro-Western’ are created so that the West can negotiate with them," he said.
"No one within the structure of the Islamic Republic thinks about anything other than defeating the Western world and establishing Islamic dominance globally."
For Iran expert Daftari, the Mahdi doctrine also provides a flexible justification for policy.
"A lot of insiders know perfectly well that this language is being used strategically," she said. "The Mahdi story gives the leadership a way to claim moral and religious cover for decisions that are often about preserving the regime or expanding its reach."
"When they talk about ‘preparing the ground’ for the Mahdi, that phrase can be stretched to cover almost anything — crushing protests, backing militias abroad or asking people to accept more economic pain."
"This religious framing makes compromise much harder," she added. "If you convince your base that you are carrying out a holy mission… backing down can be painted as a betrayal of God’s plan."
Ghadimi said that message is reinforced from childhood, shaping how generations understand their role in society.
In schools, media and mosques, he said, ideology was embedded into everyday life, leaving little space for alternative narratives.
That framing, analysts say, helps explain how the system sustains itself even under pressure.
It also contributes to a worldview in which conflict is not temporary, but part of a larger, ongoing struggle.
"The Islamic government, based on its own interpretation of the Quran, considers itself obligated to enforce Islamic law across the entire world," Ghadimi told Fox News Digital, adding that the regime "sees itself as the leader of this belief globally."
"They harbor hatred toward Iranians and Jews, whom they regard as enemies of Islam since its very beginning, and they consider killing them—such as on Oct. 7 and in the recent killings in Iran — to be divinely rewarded acts, much like the beliefs once held by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi," he said.
"No one within the structure of the Islamic Republic thinks about anything other than defeating the Western world and establishing Islamic dominance globally," Ghadimi said.
In that framework, critics say, Iran is not simply pursuing national interests but acting within what it sees as a broader religious mandate.

Some critics argue that within this framework, violence can take on religious meaning.
"They consider killing them… to be divinely rewarded acts," Ghadimi said.
Still, analysts say the combination of messianic belief and absolutist ideology creates a system in which confrontation is not only expected, but justified.
An Iranian official rejected those characterizations and warned that economic collapse and destruction caused by war could drive long-term resentment.
"If a country is turned into ruins, poverty spreads. Out of such poverty comes hatred, resentment and a desire for revenge, and this cycle of hostility can continue for years. It is not correct to think that everything will simply end the day after a ceasefire. Even if there were no hostile government left in place, people within society who have lost everything may still be driven to seek retribution."
For Ghadimi, the issue is not just how Iran behaves, but how it understands itself.
If the system is rooted in a belief that blends religion, power and mission, critics say, then policies like repression at home and confrontation abroad may not be temporary tactics but structural features.
And if moderation within that system is limited, as some argue, then the challenge for policymakers is not simply negotiation, but understanding the ideology that drives it.
LONDON: The left-wing British Green Party has said it wants to separate the Church of England from the state if it wins the next general election, which must be held before August 2029.
The Church of England has been the "established" church since the 16th-century Reformation, with the British monarch serving as its supreme governor. For traditionalists, this link is not merely ceremonial but is the foundational bedrock of British identity.
The Greens have come under fire for seeking to remove centuries of British history and tradition by separating the church from British politics, with critics characterizing it as the latest move against Christianity in the U.K.

High-profile figures have also weighed in on the debate, with actor and comedian John Cleese responding to a comment about the Greens' proposal by stating on X: "The UK has always been based at the deepest level on Christian values, regardless of dogma. Despite the many mistakes made by churches, for centuries British people have been influenced by Christ's teaching. If these values are replaced by Islamic ones, this will not be Britain anymore."

Pope Leo XIV gave his first Easter blessing as pontiff on Sunday, calling for peace and urging the world not to grow indifferent to the deaths of tens of thousands in violent conflicts around the world.
Leo gave the traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica to a crowd in St. Peter’s Square that Vatican media described as numbering over 50,000.
Leo said that in a world hurt by wars and abuses, people need hope and peace, urging against growing accustomed to violence and indifferent to the death of tens of thousands.
"On this day of celebration let us abandon every desire for conflict domination and power and implore the Lord to grant his peace to a world ravaged by wars and marked by a hatred and indifference that makes us feel powerless to the face of evil," the pope said.

Let those who have the power to unleash wars choose peace. Not a peace imposed by force, but through dialogue. Not through a desire to dominate others, but to encounter them."
Leo also invoked what he said were the final words that Pope Francis issued to the world from the same balcony one year ago, during which the late pontiff warned of a "globalization of indifference."
"What a great thirst for death, for killing we witness each day in the many conflicts raging in different parts of the world," Leo said, quoting Francis.
Leo concluded the blessing by wishing everyone a happy Easter in 10 different languages and singing the Regina Ceoli.
Leo earlier held his first Easter Mass as pope, in which he called for the faithful to exercise hope against "the violence of war that kills and destroys,’’ adding that in the face of conflicts spreading around the world, "we need this song of hope today."
Leo has repeatedly called for a halt in hostilities as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran enters its second month and Russia continues its violent campaign in Ukraine.

In Österreich steht der nächste Akt der kulturellen Selbstaufgabe ins Haus. In Steyr soll eine katholische Kirche verscherbelt werden, weil den weichgespülten Kirchenfürsten die Gläubigen davonlaufen. Die türkisch-islamische Community reibt sich derweil schon die Hände und träumt völlig ungeniert von der nächsten Landnahme. Kreuz runter, Halbmond rauf?
Zugegeben, die Pfarrkirche Heiliger Josef im oberösterreichischen Steyr (Stadtteil Ennsleite) ist ein architektonisches Verbrechen. Nackter Sichtbeton, Brutalismus der 1960er Jahre – ein eiskalter Bunker, der es wohl locker in die Top Ten der hässlichsten Kirchen der Republik schafft. Doch dass diesem Gotteshaus nun endgültig die letzten Gläubigen ausgehen und der Pfarrgemeinderat den Verkauf beschlossen hat, zeigt, wohin die Reise geht. Der dortige Seelsorger beteuert laut Exxpress wehleidig, dass bei dieser Entscheidung “allen das Herz blutet”. Wer’s glaubt! Die offizielle Kirche hat ihre Schäfchen doch längst an den links-grünen Zeitgeist verraten.
Und wer steht schon freudig grinsend auf der Fußmatte, um die spirituelle und architektonische Konkursmasse des sich in Europa selbst abschaffenden Christentums zu übernehmen? Richtig, die islamische Community. Wie der Exxpress treffsicher zitiert, träumt der in Österreich lebende Türke Ümit Y. bereits ganz offen von der Unterwerfung des christlichen Baus: “Die Kirche hier in Steyr-Ennsleite wäre eine sehr schöne Moschee. Lasst uns alle zusammenkommen, sie kaufen und zu einer Moschee machen.”
Das ist kein feuchter Traum eines Einzelnen. Dass die Umwandlung unserer Gotteshäuser in islamische Machtzentren längst System hat, beweist ein gewisser Erdal I., der triumphierend auf Deutschland verweist. Dort, im niedersächsischen Helmstedt, hat die DITIB – der verlängerte Arm der türkischen Religionsbehörde Diyanet – längst eine neuapostolische Kirche geschluckt und daraus die “Fatih-Moschee” gemacht. Für all jene politisch korrekten Gutmenschen, die es immer noch nicht begriffen haben: “Fatih” bedeutet schlicht und einfach “Eroberung”!
Es ist eine Huldigung an Sultan Mehmed II., den Moslem-Schlächter, der 1453 das christliche Konstantinopel eingenommen hat. Von diesen Eroberungs-Tempeln gibt es auch bei uns in Österreich bereits mehr als genug, ob in Wien, Braunau, Wiener Neustadt oder Feldkirch. Letztere gehört übrigens zur extremistischen Gruppe AIF/IGMG (Islamische Gemeinschaft Millî Görüş). In Hamburg verkaufte man uns sogar den Verzicht auf den Halbmond zugunsten arabischer Schriftzüge auf der früheren Kapernaum-Kirche als “respektvoll”.
Natürlich gibt es in den türkischen Foren auch jene vermeintlich moderaten Töne, an die sich unsere Multi-Kulti-Illusionisten jetzt wie Ertrinkende klammern werden. Da rät etwa ein Ugur K. zur Zurückhaltung, allerdings weniger aus Respekt, sondern aus nackter politischer Berechnung: Er fürchtet schlichtweg, dass die einheimische Bevölkerung “rebellieren” könnte. Andere faseln weltfremd davon, die Christen mit der islamischen Spendenpflicht (Zakat) zu alimentieren oder das Gebäude salomonisch aufzuteilen.
Doch das wahre Gesinnungsbild der Erdogan-Jünger, die die Umwandlung der Hagia Sophia in Istanbul als klaren Handlungsauftrag für Europa sehen, bringt der Kommentator Mustafa S. gnadenlos ehrlich auf den Punkt: Das Christentum sei “sowieso eine falsche, erfundene und verfälschte Religion”, poltert er. Daher gebe es nur eine Option: “Lasst uns die Kirche kaufen und zur Moschee machen.” Das ist die ungeschminkte Wahrheit. “Österreich soll unsere Stärke sehen”, heißt die Devise. Wird sich jemand im offiziellen Österreich finden, der dem etwas erwidert?
Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre and other major holy sites were closed on Palm Sunday under Israeli wartime restrictions, disrupting one of Christianity’s holiest observances as the Iran war entered its fifth week.
The Catholic Church rebuked the police decision as "a manifestly unreasonable and grossly disproportionate measure."
Israeli police lamented the war restrictions limiting worship and acknowledged the need to "balance freedom" with "public safety."
"Under Home Front Command directives, life-saving restrictions apply to all holy sites in the Old City — for Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike," Israeli police posted to X, responding to an outcry on religious freedom in a video statement. "The Old City has been targeted by murderous missiles multiple times this month, alongside constant fire on residential areas."

The Latin Patriarchate said Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and Father Francesco Ielpo were stopped by Israeli police while trying to reach the church privately to celebrate Mass, after the traditional Palm Sunday procession had already been canceled.
Israel President Isaac Herzog called the restricted worshipers to "express my great sorrow over this morning's unfortunate incident."

"I reaffirmed the State of Israel's unwavering commitment to freedom of religion for all faiths and to upholding the status quo at the holy sites of Jerusalem."
The Italian government rebuked what it called an "offense" on "religious freedom" in the Holy Land.
"The Italian government expresses closeness to Cardinal Pizzaballa, Father Ielpo and the religious who have been prevented today by the Israeli authorities from celebrating the Palm Sunday Mass in the Holy Sepulchre," Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote in a statement. "The Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is a sacred place of Christianity, and as such to be preserved and protected for the celebration of sacred rites. Preventing the entry of the Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Keeper of the Holy Land, moreover in a central solemnity for the faith such as Palm Sunday, constitutes an offense not only for believers, but for every community that recognizes religious freedom."

The Latin Patriarchate said the Church of the Holy Sepulchre has been hosting Masses that are not open to the public since the Iran war began Feb. 28, and it was unclear why Sunday’s Mass and access by the two priests was any different.
"It’s a very, very sacred day for Christians and in our opinion there was no justification for such a decision or such an action," Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem spokesperson Farid Jubran said.
The church had requested permission from the police, he added, for a few religious leaders to enter the church for a private Mass on Sunday — not one that was open to the public.
Pope Leo XIV, at the end of Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, prayed for all Christians in the Middle East who he said were living through an "atrocious" conflict. He said, "in many cases, they cannot live fully the rites of these holy days," though he did not elaborate.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday evening that there was no "malicious intent" and that the cardinal was prevented from accessing the church because of safety concerns, but that Israel would try to partially open the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
"Given the holiness of the week leading up to Easter for the world’s Christians, Israel’s security arms are putting together a plan to enable church leaders to worship at the holy site in the coming days," Netanyahu wrote on X.
The Western Wall, a holy site for Jews, is also mostly closed because of safety issues, but authorities are letting up to 50 people at a time pray in an enclosed area adjacent to the plaza.
Smaller churches, synagogues and mosques are open in Jerusalem’s Old City if they are located within a certain distance of a bomb shelter deemed acceptable by Israel’s military and, if gatherings are kept under 50 people.

Sie erklärte, Großbritanniens Status als christliches Land müsse bewahrt werden und warnte vor der Grünen Partei, die, sollte sie an die Macht kommen, Berichten zufolge plant, die anglikanische Kirche als Staatskirche Großbritanniens abzuschaffen.
Dies geschieht zudem vor dem Hintergrund einer neuen Definition von „Islamophobie“ durch die britische Regierung, die sie nun als „antimuslimische Feindseligkeit“ bezeichnet.
Die Regierung definiert Islamophobie unter anderem als „die vorurteilsbehaftete Stereotypisierung von Muslimen oder Menschen, die als Muslime wahrgenommen werden, unter anderem aufgrund ihrer ethnischen oder rassischen Herkunft oder ihres Aussehens, und die Behandlung dieser Personen als Kollektiv mit festen und negativen Merkmalen, mit der Absicht, Hass gegen sie zu schüren, ungeachtet ihrer tatsächlichen Meinungen, Überzeugungen oder Handlungen als Einzelpersonen.“
Kritiker argumentieren, die Definition sei zu weit gefasst und werde die Meinungsfreiheit einschränken. Cleese repostete zum Thema der angeblichen „Islamophobie“ folgendes Statement mit dem Titel „Why do we only fear Islam, not other religions?“:
In einem anderen X-Post zitiert Cleese folgenden Bericht aus einer Grundschule in Lincolnshire:
„Heilige Scheiße! Eine Grundschule in Großbritannien zwang Kinder zu islamischen Gebeten. Die Schule steht unter Schutz, da sie mit negativen Reaktionen rechnet, und darf daher nicht namentlich genannt werden. Sie befindet sich in Lincolnshire. ‚Wir haben gestern zu Allah gebetet‘, sagte ein siebenjähriges Mädchen zu ihrem Vater. Den Kindern wurde zunächst ein Video gezeigt, das ihnen erklärte, wie man richtig kniend und mit gesenktem Kopf betet, bevor sie es selbst ausprobierten. Der Vorfall kam ans Licht, nachdem empörte Eltern Anzeige bei der Polizei von Lincolnshire erstattet hatten. Absolut schändlich!“
Cleese schrieb dazu: Auf welche Weise werden britische Kinder diesem außerordentlich aggressiven Glaubenssystem unterworfen? Wer übernimmt dafür die Verantwortung?
Mit seinem Auftreten gegen die Islamisierung Großbritanniens ist Cleese eine wichtige Stimme, einer der wenigen prominenten Künstler, die in dieser Frage den Mund aufbekommen. Allerdings ist Cleese nicht in allen Fragen kritisch. Er beteiligt sich beispielsweise am billigen Trump-Bashing des Mainstreams.
Das Netzwerk der Muslimbrüder ist die Hauptkraft der Islamisierung Europas. Ihr Gründer Hasan al-Banna gab mit seinem Buch „Die Todesindustrie“ die Linie vor. Wer es kennt, versteht, warum mit seinen Anhängern keine friedliche Koexistenz möglich ist.

Der Arabischlehrer Hasan al-Bannā gründete die Muslimbruderschaft im März 1928 in Ismailia am Suezkanal zusammen mit sechs anderen Männern. Sie wandten sich gegen die Vorherrschaft der Briten in Ägypten und wollten für die Stärkung des Islams und der islamischen Umma (= Weltgemeinschaft) eintreten. Man leistete einen Treueeid auf Gott und schwor, als Brüder leben und sich ganz in den Dienst des Islam stellen zu wollen.
Ziel der neuen Gemeinschaft war die Verbreitung islamischer Moralvorstellungen und die Unterstützung wohltätiger Aktionen, aber auch die Befreiung des Landes von der fremden Okkupation sowie der Kampf gegen die britisch-westliche „Dekadenz“. Der Westen wolle die islamische Tradition in der arabischen Welt zerstören, sei aber dekadent, weshalb der Islam bald eine Führungsrolle übernehmen werde.
In den 1930er Jahren wurde die Bruderschaft immer politischer, man forderte eine Rückkehr zum ursprünglichen Islam und die Errichtung einer islamischen Ordnung ein. Anerkannt werden dürften nur Herrscher, die in Übereinstimmung mit der Scharia regierten. Al-Banna trat nun auch für den bewaffneten Dschihad gegen Nicht-Muslime und deren Helfer ein. 1938 führte die „Bruderschaft“ unter Parolen wie „Nieder mit den Juden“ und „Juden raus aus Ägypten“ gewalttätige Proteste gegen Juden durch.
Al-Banna war von Anfang an ein Bewunderer von Benito Mussolini und Adolf Hitler. Aufgebaut wurde die Bruderschaft nach dem Vorbild der italienischen Faschisten, kooperiert haben sie mit der von Alfred Heß geführten NSDAP-Auslandssektion in Ägypten. Finanziert wurde die Bruderschaft ab 1938 von der NS-Regierung in Berlin, in der Folge konnte sie ihre Propaganda massiv ausweiten (siehe: Brynjar Lia: The Society of the Muslim Brother in Egypt – The Rise of an Islamic Mass Movement 1928–1942, Reading, 1998).
Mit den deutschen Geldern wuchs die Bruderschaft nun rascher und breitete sich auch in Nachbarländern aus. Hatte sie Ende der 1930er Jahre noch wenige hundert Mitglieder, so waren es 1941 schon etwa 60.000 und 1948 dann 500.000 Mitglieder und hunderttausende Sympathisanten. Sie war streng hierarchisch organisiert, hatte eigene Moscheen, Firmen, Fabriken, Krankenhäuser und Schulen und besetzte wichtige Posten in Armee und Gewerkschaften. Sie legte viel Wert auf Bildung und Ausbildung im Sinne ihrer islamischen Gesellschaftsvision.
Seit damals ist sie ein wichtiger Faktor in der ägyptischen Gesellschaft. Und seit den 1950er Jahren breitete sich die Bruderschaft international aus. Sie übernahm das Emirat Katar politisch und baute Sektionen in diversen islamischen Ländern auf, später auch in den westeuropäischen Staaten. Mit der regierenden türkischen AKP besteht eine enge Kooperation.
Die politische Leitlinie des globalen Machtfaktors Muslimbruderschaft legte al-Banna selbst. Bereits 1938 erschien sein Aufsatz „Die Todesindustrie“, in welchem die Abwendung vom Leben und die Verherrlichung des Märtyrertums ausgeführt werden:
„Derjenigen Nation, welche die Industrie des Todes perfektioniert und die weiß, wie man edel stirbt, gibt Gott ein stolzes Leben auf dieser Welt und ewige Gunst in dem Leben, das noch kommt. Die Illusion, die uns gedemütigt hatte, besteht in nichts anderem als der Liebe zum weltzugewandten Leben und dem Hass auf den Tod.“ (siehe: Dunja Larise und Thomas Schmidinger: Zwischen Gottesstaat und Islam – Handbuch des politischen Islam. Al-Banna formulierte in diesem Text sein Verständnis des Djihad, wobei das Sterben für den Glauben als höchstes Ziel und „Industrie“ – also als angestrebte Produktion von Märtyrertum – dargestellt wird.
Und Al-Banna formulierte auch die prägnanten Grundsätze der Muslimbrüder: „Gott ist unser Ziel. Der Prophet ist unser Führer. Der Koran ist unsere Verfassung. Der Dschihad ist unser Weg. Der Tod für Gott ist unser nobelster Wunsch.“ (siehe: Muhammad Murtaza: Die ägyptische Muslimbruderschaft – Geschichte und Ideologie. Berlin 2011)
Diese Leitsätze verwenden die Muslimbrüder bis zum heutigen Tag als Motto. Der Unterwerfung der Mitglieder der Muslimbruderschaft unter diese Ziele entspricht, dass sie sich in absolutem Gehorsam der Führung der Bruderschaft unterwerfen.
Al-Banna ist bis heute Vorbild für die Muslimbrüder weltweit, in ihrem Netzwerk in mehr als 70 Ländern. Wenn sie in Ägypten oder auch Westeuropa immer wieder „gewaltfrei“ auftreten, ist das wohl taktischen Überlegungen angesichts aktueller Kräfteverhältnisse geschuldet. Ihre „palästinensische“ Teilorganisation war stets militant ausgerichtet. Und auch Al-Kaida wurde maßgeblich von früheren Muslimbrüdern mitaufgebaut.
Vor allem hat al-Banna seine Ausführungen zum Märtyrertum für den Islam nicht frei erfunden, sondern stützt sich zu Recht auf den Religionsgründer und Kriegsherren Mohammed. Laut ihm wird der Tod für den islamischen Glauben in einem Paradies auf die höchstmögliche Weise belohnt, unter anderem mit den „Huris“ (schönen reinen Mädchen). Das findet sich im Koran in den Suren 44, 55 und 56. Die Zahl der 72 Jungfrauen wird nicht im Koran selbst genannt, sondern in „Hadithen“ (z. B. bei At-Tirmidhi oder Ibn Hibban).
Und die Ideologen der schiitischen Dschihadisten stützen sich auf dieselben Grundlagen bei Mohammed und kommen zu ähnlichen Konsequenzen wie al-Banna. Das zeigt etwa die folgende Aussage von Ruholla Khomeini, dem Gründer und der großen Leitfigur der „Islamischen Republik Iran“:
„Den Ungläubigen das Leben zu lassen bedeutet Nachsicht gegenüber ihrem verderblichen Tun. Sie zu töten ist wie das Herausschneiden eines Geschwürs, wie es Allah der Allmächtige befiehlt. Jene, die dem Koran folgen, wissen, dass wir die Quissas (Strafgesetze) anwenden und töten müssen. Die Kriege, die unser Prophet, Friede seiner Seele, gegen die Ungläubigen führte, waren ein Geschenk Gottes an die Menschheit. Wir müssen auf der ganzen Welt Krieg führen, bis alle Verderbnis, aller Ungehorsam gegenüber dem islamischen Gesetz aufhören.“
Die Vorstellung eines friedlich-gedeihliches Nebeneinanders des europäischen Kulturraumes mit dem radikal islamischen, wenn sich nur beide Seiten ethnopluralistisch in ihren Gebieten in Ruhe lassen, ist naiv und unhaltbar. Der Islam ist eben nur in geringem Maße eine Religion im engeren Sinne und vor allem eine politische Herrschaftsideologie.
Bereits in den islamischen Grundlagentexten ist die fundamentale Unterscheidung in muslimische Herrenmenschen und minderwertige „Ungläubige“ ebenso festgeschrieben wie der Auftrag, die gesamte Welt für Allah zu erobern (siehe auch den neurechten Grundlagentext „Das Dschihad-System: Wie der Islam funktioniert“ von Manfred Kleine-Hartlage).
Mit politischen Kräften und einem Kulturraum, die so denken, ist eine friedliche Koexistenz auf ethnopluralistischer Grundlage nicht möglich. Mit manchen Kulturräumen, die nicht aggressiv expansiv sind, mag das gelingen, mit dem Islam in der hier geschilderten (und Studien zufolge weit verbreiteten) Interpretation definitiv nicht. Hinduisten und Buddhisten sind sich darüber, aufgrund ihrer Erfahrung mit dem Islam, sehr klar.
Wer eine friedliche Koexistenz Europas mit diesem islamischen, expansiven und totalitären Herrschaftssystem als reale Perspektive nahelegt, ist in seiner Naivität nicht weit entfernt von den links-grünen Multikulturalisten. Wer den Krieg der Dschihadisten gegen Israel oder auch die islamfaschistische Diktatur der iranischen Mullahs auch nur irgendwie in die Nähe eines Freiheitskampfes rückt, der ist beim Kulturrelativismus angelangt und betreibt das Geschäft der Feinde der europäischen Völker.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was chased out of the country's largest mosque Friday as Muslims in attendance voiced anger over his stance on the Israeli war against Hamas.
Albanese was called several names, including a "putrid dog" and a "genocide supporter" in reference to the deaths of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after Hamas' Oct. 7, 2023, attack in Israel, The Telegraph reported.
Video footage showed the prime minister standing alongside Tony Burke, the home affairs minister, at the Lakemba Mosque in Sydney as the community marked Eid, the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
"Why is he in here? Get him out of here!" some shouted.
Albanese and his Left Labor government have drawn criticism for its support of a ceasefire in Gaza and Israel's right to defend itself.
During the commotion, Gamel Kheir, the mosque’s secretary, pleaded for calm.
"Respect the place you’re in," he said. "We must engage and have frank and open dialogue with our political leaders and not shy away and be reclusive."
"You called him honorable. He’s responsible for the deaths of 1 million people, 1 million of our brothers and sisters," one person reportedly shouted.

Albanese was taken into an office inside the mosque by security before he was taken out of the building and into his motorcade.
As he was leaving, cries of "shame on you" and the slur "Alba-tizi," a derogatory Arabic play on his surname, referencing buttocks, were shouted.
"He wants to come here after shaking hands with the president of Israel, who’s got blood on his hands," said one person who confronted the prime minister. "To come here and act like nothing has happened is a disgrace."
Albanese posted photos on X showing him smiling and shaking hands with attendees.
"Overwhelmingly, the reception was incredibly positive," he told reporters of his visit. "I walked through the crowd to the mosque, and not a single person heckled. There were a couple of hecklers inside. They were dealt with.
"Contrary to what’s been suggested, no one was rushed out," he added. "We just sat there. … It was dealt with by the community themselves because overwhelmingly they did not want that to occur."
Nigeria suicide bombings killed at least 23 people and wounded more than 100 others in Maiduguri, officials said Tuesday, as a Christian nonprofit leader warned the violence highlights ongoing religious persecution.
The Associated Press reported that one of the deadliest attacks on Maiduguri in recent history involved explosions in crowded areas on Monday night, including a major market in the capital of Borno state and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Borno police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso said in a statement that the wounded "sustained varying degrees of injuries," blaming the attacks on suspected suicide bombers.
President Bola Tinubu, who departed Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, offered condolences to the victims and instructed security chiefs to "take charge of the situation" in Maiduguri.
"The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups," Tinubu said. "Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down."
While no group has claimed responsibility, the AP reported suspicion has fallen on the Boko Haram jihadi group, which launched an insurgency in northeastern Nigeria in 2009 to enforce its radical interpretation of Shariah law.
Since launching its insurgency, Boko Haram has grown stronger, with thousands of fighters and multiple factions, some aligned with the Islamic State group.

The explosions on Monday night began at about 7:30 p.m. at the entrance of the teaching hospital. A few minutes later, a second and third blast followed at the Monday Market and a nearby post office hub, both about 2.5 miles from the hospital.
Caleb Jonah, who survived the explosion at the hospital entrance, told the AP he suffered injuries to his legs and hands.
"I was coming to the hospital to check (in on) a patient when I saw two men struggling with the security men at the gate," Jonah said. "Before I could process what was going on I heard the deafening blast and I passed out."

"As the CEO and founder of Across Nigeria, these recent attacks in Maiduguri are personal and a stark reminder that the devastating violence continues in northern Nigeria," he said in a statement. "This is the result of radical Islamic groups that are allowed to operate unchecked. The only question is, how many more must be killed, before the world wakes up to the genocide that slaughters thousands of Christians every year."
"We condemn these violent acts and the perpetrators who commit them," he added. "We also call on the U.S. Government to intervene and the media to embrace their role in bringing light to the hidden things of darkness."
While Maiduguri has been at the center of deadly violence in Nigeria, it has experienced relative peace in recent years, even as extremists batter the countryside.
Monday’s attack took place less than 24 hours after the Nigerian military repelled attacks by militants outside Maiduguri.
By Tuesday morning, heavy security had been deployed to the affected locations and along major roads.

People Leo XIV on Saturday announced the appointment of the Vatican’s new ambassador, Apostolic Nuncio, to the U.S. to help manage strained relations with the Trump administration.
Italian Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, 68, a veteran Vatican diplomat who is currently ambassador to the United Nations, previously served as ambassador to the Philippines and Lebanon.
Caccia is replacing 80-year-old Cardinal Christophe Pierre, who is retiring.
"I receive this mission with both joy and a sense of trepidation," Caccia said after the appointment, according to the Vatican News. He added that his mission was "at the service of communion and peace," remembering that 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S.

He also said he had met with the pope’s brother, who he called "serious MAGA."
Last fall, the pope suggested that supporting the "inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States" is not "pro-life," leaving White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt to "reject there was inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants in the United States under this administration."
Leavitt, who is Catholic, added that the administration always tries to be as humane as possible while enforcing laws.
Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, current president of the U.S. conference, said after Caccia’s appointment, "On behalf of my brother bishops, I wish to extend our warmest welcome and our prayerful support to him as he carries out his responsibilities across the United States."

Pope Leo XIV this week said he "can’t" comment on the 20-year sentence imposed on a democracy activist in Hong Kong.
"I can’t comment," the American-born Leo told EWTN News, which covers Catholic news globally, while speaking to reporters in Italy.
"Let’s pray for less hatred and more peace and work for authentic dialogue. God bless you all."
Hong Kong publisher and democracy activist Jimmy Lai, who is a converted Catholic, was sentenced to 20 years by Beijing last month for violating its 2020 national security law, which U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called "unjust and tragic."

The 78-year-old founded the now-closed Hong Kong-based Apple Daily in 1995, while the island was still under British rule.
Lai’s sentence closed one of the country’s most consequential national security cases since Beijing imposed the sweeping new law in 2020 after months-long anti-Chinese Communist Party protests in 2019, which were sparked by fears Beijing was eroding Hong Kong’s promised autonomy.
They were followed by a sweeping security crackdown that criminalized dissent and reshaped the city’s legal system.

Lai was arrested several times during the 2019 protests, and he was detained at his home in 2020. His newspaper was also raided at the time and closed.
He was found guilty in December of attempting to undermine national security.
