Børge Brende, who has faced scrutiny due to the revelation of links between him and the late Jeffrey Epstein, is stepping down from his role as World Economic Forum president and CEO.
"I am grateful for the incredible collaboration with my colleagues, partners, and constituents, and I believe now is the right moment for the Forum to continue its important work without distractions," Brende said in a statement.
Disclosures by the U.S. Justice Department indicated that Brende had attended three business dinners with Epstein and engaged him in communications through email and texts, according to Reuters.

"In light of these interactions, the Governing Board requested the Audit and Risk Committee to look into the matter, which subsequently decided to initiate an independent review," the WEF noted in a statement, the outlet reported earlier this month. "This decision underscores the Forum's commitment to transparency and maintaining its integrity."
In the statement about Brende's departure, the globalist body noted, "The independent review conducted by outside counsel has concluded. The findings stated that there were no additional concerns beyond what has been previously disclosed."
WEF's co-chairs André Hoffmann and Larry Fink said in a statement on behalf of the board of trustees that they wanted "to express our sincere appreciation for Børge Brende's significant contributions to the World Economic Forum."
"His dedication and leadership have been instrumental during a pivotal period of reforms for the organization, leading to a successful annual meeting in Davos. We respect his decision to step down," they said.
"We are pleased to announce that Alois Zwinggi will serve as Interim President and CEO and looking forward to his continued collaboration and partnership over time," Hoffmann and Fink added. "The Board of Trustees will oversee the leadership transition including the plan to drive a proper process to identify a permanent successor."

Brende asserted in a statement that he met Epstein while attending a dinner that former Norwegian Deputy Prime Minister Terje Rod-Larsen invited him to, according to Reuters.
Brende noted that he later went to two similar dinners that included Epstein and that those dinners plus "a few emails and SMS messages" comprised the full scope of his engagements with Epstein, according to the outlet.

"I was completely unaware of Epstein's past and criminal activities," Brende noted, according to the outlet.
"Had I known about his background, I would have declined the initial invitation to join Rod-Larsen and any subsequent dinner invitations or other communications," he said.

Das Hauptargument ist rechtlicher Natur und richtet sich direkt an den Obersten Gerichtshof der Vereinigten Staaten (SCOTUS). In der Veröffentlichung werden sogar mehrere relevante frühere Entscheidungen angeführt. Der Kern dieser Entscheidungen besteht darin, dass Behörden in alten Gesetzen keine neue Bedeutung finden können, die ihnen plötzlich enorme neue Regulierungsbefugnisse verleiht. Eine solche Rücksichtslosigkeit wird als regulatorische Übergriffigkeit bezeichnet.
Das Argument der EPA lautet, dass die Gefährdungsfeststellung genau eine solche massive Überschreitung darstellt, und so sieht es auch ganz sicher aus. Es handelte sich nicht um eine schleichende Ausweitung der Aufgaben, sondern eher um eine explosionsartige Ausweitung.
Das betreffende Gesetz ist Abschnitt 202(a) des Clean Air Act, der es der EPA erlaubt, schädliche Abgasemissionen von Kraftfahrzeugen zu regulieren. Die Gefährdungsfeststellung von Obama basiert vollständig auf dieser engen Regelung.
„Die Behörde kommt zu dem Schluss, dass Abschnitt 202(a) des CAA der EPA keine gesetzliche Befugnis erteilt, Emissionsstandards für Kraftfahrzeuge und Motoren in der bisher praktizierten Weise vorzuschreiben, auch nicht zum Zweck der Bekämpfung des globalen Klimawandels, und daher keine Rechtsgrundlage für die Gefährdungsfeststellung und die daraus resultierenden Vorschriften besteht. Die EPA ist der festen Überzeugung, dass die von der Obama-Regierung im Jahr 2009 getroffene Gefährdungsfeststellung die Befugnisse der Behörde zur Bekämpfung der ‚Luftverschmutzung‘, die die öffentliche Gesundheit und das Wohlbefinden beeinträchtigt, überschritten hat und dass eine politische Entscheidung dieser Größenordnung mit so weitreichenden wirtschaftlichen und politischen Folgen ausschließlich beim Kongress liegt. Im Gegensatz zu unseren Vorgängern ist die Trump-EPA entschlossen, das Gesetz genau so zu befolgen, wie es geschrieben steht und wie es der Kongress beabsichtigt hat – und nicht so, wie andere es sich vielleicht wünschen würden.“
Dies ist genau die Art von Rechtsfrage, mit der sich der Oberste Gerichtshof normalerweise befasst.
Es gibt einen Aspekt der Gefährdungsfeststellung, der so offensichtlich falsch ist, dass er schon komisch ist. Ich würde damit beginnen, weil er zumindest teilweise die Argumente der EPA für eine Aufhebung stützt. Die EPA erwähnt ihn beiläufig mit folgenden Worten:
„In einem beispiellosen Schritt stellte die EPA unter Obama fest, dass die von Autos ausgestoßenen Kohlendioxidemissionen – in Kombination mit fünf anderen Gasen, von denen einige von Fahrzeugen gar nicht ausgestoßen werden – in unbekannter Höhe zur Treibhausgas-Konzentration in der Atmosphäre beitragen …”
Also nutzten sie das Auspuffrohrgesetz, um Gase zu bewerten (und anschließend zu regulieren), die Auspuffrohre gar nicht ausstoßen. Es gibt eindeutig keine gesetzliche Grundlage für diese Gefährdungsfeststellungen.
Dies sind keine wissenschaftlichen Fragen, und der Oberste Gerichtshof der Vereinigten Staaten (SCOTUS) entscheidet normalerweise auch nicht über wissenschaftliche Fragen. Es gibt jedoch eineinhalb wissenschaftliche Argumente für den Fall, dass die Wissenschaft ins Spiel kommt. Das heißt, ein Argument wird in der Veröffentlichung vollständig dargelegt, während das andere lediglich angedeutet wird.
Hier ist das vollständig dargelegte Argument:
„Unter Verwendung der gleichen Modelle, die auch von früheren Regierungen und Klimawandel-Fanatikern verwendet wurden, kommt die EPA nun zu dem Schluss, dass selbst wenn die USA alle Treibhausgasemissionen aller Fahrzeuge eliminieren würden, dies bis zum Jahr 2100 keine wesentlichen Auswirkungen auf die globalen Klimaindikatoren hätte.“
Dies ist eigentlich eine Gefährdungsfeststellung, nämlich dass keine Gefährdung besteht.
Hier ist das erwähnte Argument:
„… die Umweltbehörde EPA unter Obama stellte fest, dass Kohlendioxidemissionen von Kraftfahrzeugen – in Kombination mit fünf weiteren Gasen, von denen einige gar nicht von Fahrzeugen ausgestoßen werden – in unbekannter Höhe zur Konzentration von Treibhausgasen in der Atmosphäre beitragen, die wiederum über verschiedene Kausalketten eine Rolle spielen, die die Gesundheit und das Wohlergehen der Menschen gefährden können.“
Die verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Fragen, die sich hier stellen, betreffen die Realität der „vielfältigen Kausalketten“, die in Obamas Gefährdungsfeststellung behauptet werden. Diese Kausalitätsfragen beinhalten eine Menge Panikmache.
Aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht handelt es sich bei der Gefährdungsfeststellung um eine komplexe Attributionsbehauptung, die höchst spekulativ und umstritten ist. Diese Fragen der Kausalketten könnten in den technischen Begleitdokumenten zur Aufhebung näher erläutert werden. Wenn sie jedoch zumindest erwähnt werden, wie in der Veröffentlichung, schafft dies einen Platzhalter für sie, falls sie während der SCOTUS-Verhandlungen zur Sprache kommen sollten.

The Mexican government said the security situation in the western state of Jalisco has "stabilized" after an explosion of cartel-linked violence following the death of kingpin Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho."
The Embassy of Mexico in the United States said federal and state authorities were working to normalize conditions after the unrest, reopening transit corridors and restoring public services following targeted operations.
The update comes as the State Department's travel advisory for Mexico remains in effect at a heightened level of caution, while flight cancellations and transportation disruptions stranded some travelers in popular destinations such as Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. Hundreds of Americans remain stranded in Mexico following the violence.
"The security situation has now stabilized following targeted operations in Jalisco," the embassy said in a post on X. "Federal and state authorities are proceeding to reopen transit corridors and restore public services smoothly."

The embassy said airline operations were returning to normal and that international carriers were resuming flights. Puerto Vallarta International Airport has reopened to domestic traffic, according to the statement.

Officials said they were coordinating with international partners "to ensure safety and stability at all transit hubs and tourist destinations."
DEATH TOLL RISES AFTER MEXICAN DRUG CARTEL LEADER KILLED IN US-BACKED OPERATION
The statement described the operation as part of "a broader national effort that has produced a sustained decrease in violence across Mexico in recent months."
According to the State Department’s official website, Mexico is currently under a Level 2 "Exercise Increased Caution" travel advisory due to risks including crime and kidnapping. The advisory notes that violent crime and organized criminal activity remain concerns for U.S. citizens traveling in the country.

Certain Mexican states carry higher risk levels, with some areas classified as Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" or Level 4 "Do Not Travel," depending on local conditions. Jalisco — where the recent violence occurred — has previously been listed among states with elevated advisory levels, though the State Department notes that risk can vary by region.
The advisory urges U.S. citizens to take precautions similar to those required of U.S. government employees, including avoiding intercity travel at night, using regulated transportation services and remaining aware that emergency services may be limited in some areas.
The State Department said it had received hundreds of calls on its 24/7 crisis hotline as Americans sought assistance following the violence.
Mexican authorities said Oseguera Cervantes was killed Sunday during an operation aided by U.S. intelligence.
The cartel responded by setting vehicles on fire and erecting roadblocks throughout Guadalajara, the state capital. The city’s international airport operated at limited capacity as violence gripped the area.
The U.S. State Department had previously offered up to $15 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction, describing him as "one of the most wanted fugitives in Mexico."
The U.S. Department of the Treasury had previously identified and sanctioned the exclusive resort cabins in Jalisco where the terrorist leader Ruben Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes had been hiding. The revelation highlights the impunity with which the drug boss operated in Mexico, where he felt safe staying in an area that had been identified by authorities since 2020.
