In der belgischen Hauptstadt Brüssel kam es am Donnerstag zu heftigen Ausschreitungen. Grund dafür sind geplante Sparmaßnahmen im französischsprachigen Bildungswesen. Während der Mainstream beschönigend von „Studentenprotesten“ schreibt, wird unterschlagen, dass fast drei Viertel der Jugendlichen einen außereuropäischen Migrationshintergrund haben.
Rund 2.000 junge Leute haben am Donnerstag in der belgischen Hauptstadt protestiert. Doch nicht etwa friedlich, sondern mit Gewalt und Brandstiftungen. Ursache dieser Krawalle sind demnach geplante Kürzungen der Regierung im französischsprachigen Bildungswesen des Landes. Laut der belgischen Nachrichtenagentur Belga setzten die „Demonstranten“ Fahrradständer und andere Gegenstände auf der Straße in der Nähe des Brüsseler Hauptbahnhofs in Brand und zündeten Feuerwerkskörper. Die Randalierer blockierten zudem der Feuerwehr die Zufahrt, um einen Brand am Carrefour de l’Europe zu löschen.
Die Jugendlichen warfen zudem Absperrgitter auf die Gleise und entleerten Feuerlöscher auf den Bahnsteigen. Zudem waren weitere Demonstranten aus anderen Teilen Walloniens auf dem Weg in die Hauptstadt, um sich den Protesten anzuschließen. Es kam dabei auch zu Auseinandersetzungen mit der Polizei, die versuchte, die Lage unter Kontrolle zu bringen.
Doch während die Mainstreammedien lediglich von „Studentenprotesten“ berichten, sieht die Realität in der belgischen Hauptstadt doch ein wenig anders aus. Denn bei den 0- bis 17-Jährigen haben rund 73 Prozent einen außereuropäischen Migrationshintergrund bzw. stammen selbst oder über ihre Familie aus Nicht-EU-Ländern. Nur etwa 10,6 Prozent gelten als Belgier belgischer Herkunft ohne Migrationshintergrund. Insgesamt sind in der Region Brüssel-Hauptstadt nur noch 22 Prozent der Bevölkerung belgischer Herkunft, während 78 Prozent einen ausländischen Ursprung haben (eingebürgerte Belgier mit ausländischen Wurzeln plus Ausländer). Wobei die Marokkaner, Kongolesen, Türken und Algerier die größten Gruppen stellen.
Ähnlich wie in Frankreich, wo solche Ausschreitungen mittlerweile geradezu eine neue Normalität darstellen, sind es vor allem Migrantengruppen, die ganze Straßenzüge in Schutt und Asche legen. Da stellt sich die Frage, ob dies die „Buntheit“ ist, von der die linken Politiker so gerne sprechen.
